Living in this neck of the woods, we're quite used to the publicity and festivities of the Lunar New Year aka "Chinese New Year". There is a significant Asian population in the Lower Mainland, and around this time of year, local politicians, businesses, etc, take out ads in the local papers proclaiming "Gung Hay Fat Choi" (read the article to find out what this means!) wishing the Chinese community a happy New Year.

I thought I'd share a bit of these festivities and traditions for those who may not be too familiar with them: http://www.vancouversun.com/life/holida ... story.html

(Who wouldn't want to be given "lucky money" in a red envelope?) :bounce:

When I visited Vancouver from the Bay Area I thought I had re entered the BA because of the large Asian population there. I researched it and realised why.

Gung Hay Fat Choi! I've never received lucky money, but I loved the rice paper wrapped candy!
