Gun crimes are also non existent there as well, last time I checked it was 47 firearm related deaths a year. As opposed to the 10,000+ a year in the USA.

While I don't doubt the Japan is doing far better on guns, it is a very much SMALLER country. I'd like a comparative statistic instead. An X% versus Y% data set...

There ya go. They used to have a feature to compare two countries side by side, I have no idea if it's broken or what, but it appears to be offline. :(

Thanks! Still way too many, but this is the "Do It Yourself" nation and the sales of guns in Colorado are UP by 47% from before the shooting...

Most people in the West just don't trust anybody else to protect them. :?

I know a song called Sam Hall, and the second verse says that he killed a man, and I got to the part "I shot him in the head", and, immediately, I withdrew from singing the song BECAUSE of what happened. I mean, seriously, what was he thinking? He was just a maniac, and I hope he gets the punishment that he deserves. As for Christian, though, kudos to him for what he did, as he went out of his way to visit the families of the victims. As for the punishment, what about forcibly shaving that head of his and putting him in a straitjacket followed by what he really deserves. Literally saying, what he did was murder 12 people (and left one person in critical condition who DOES NOT know that he's become a father), and he should get the same back. And to show how stupid he is, here's a new article, from somewhat an hour ago.

I like the idea of sentencing such people to being examined by the shrinks for the rest of their lives.

Keep them in a cage and use them as test subjects.

Make all the loss of lives (and theirs) good for something.

^ Well said there SH. If animal testing was replaced by sadistic :x:wit testing, the world would be a better place, and crime etc etc would cease to exist, and HE would be one of the first. I mean, seriously, THAT is what he deserves to go through, and you know he was planning on killing Christian and Anne etc etc? :x: mein gott, that man just gets worse.

When I heard about it, it was just a little too close to me to simply try to ignore. The laws for owning firearms in this country are absurd. There are no good mental health checks. You have to be bipolar or worse as I know someone whom is bipolar and it prevents her from owning anything that goes pow. I can buy ammunition in just about any quantity I want online because I've done it (really just to see if I could, and UPS delivered a number of boxes of 9mm ammunition, I'll explain why I ordered it further in).

As long as you haven't been convicted of a class A felony (a DUI is a class B felony to give you an example) such as homicide you can purchase a pow pow. I could if I wanted to, walk into a gun store, have a pathetic background check for $30 performed, purchase the gun, and ammunition at the same time. Then that night go out and murder a bunch of people.

Many people were saying afterwards (keyboard warriors as we call them, mind you) that they would've done, XYZ in the theatre situation. One veteran whom was taking classes at the Oregon College and whom carries a gun where ever he goes (yes, trained former solider, not over confident idiot with a gun) stated that he didn't use his weapon because when police arrive, they have no idea whom the shooter is, and the first person with a gun that they see becomes the enemy. Then you have people whom can legally conceal carry (also extremely low requirements for this) all of a sudden realising that unlike training, the target can shoot back at them, freaking out. That's when the person with a gun whom is there to defend themselves, and maybe others can become just dangerous as the shooter.

So the reason why I purchased ammunition was for two reasons. To see if I could actually do this, and because I own a very old 9mm pistol which was my dad's. I've shot it a few times, and it shoots very well. I purchased I think 5 boxes of ammunition (quite a bit to me) and went to a shooting range and used most of the boxes. I didn't really find any excitement, or fun in doing this like others apparently do. I thought about buying a newer pistol for myself as a reaction to the numerous shootings, but then after a while when my fears settled. I decided that I wanted more musical instruments, or stuff to make music and not a gun. I simply didn't want that burden of what If I shoot someone on my mind.

There are also in my opinion way too many people whom will call you names for not owning, nor wanting to own a gun. Most of which stem around the idea of liberalism, or socialism (almost like insulting a person's family member here.) I could list what people have said, and typed here on the issue, but it emotionally charges me too much.
