I do have my "health rights" hat on, BK, but seriously, if we had our own planet, none of the shyt about miscarriages etc being illegal would happen because... erm... yeah, all of these stupid laws seem to have been done by a man who thinks he knows what goes on inside our bodies, and the DEATH PENALTY for not being able to prove cause of miscarriage, is sadistic, and what next? Punishing women for not being pregnant then punishing them for being pregnant? That's how these stupid laws will end up, and then being a woman will be a criminal offence (half the world's population is female, including most of you and me).

The stuff happening over in the States regarding that stuff right now is terrifying me.

Just a few examples I could find quickly...
- Virginia passes bill requiring vaginal ultrasounds before all abortions except in cases of rape: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/0 ... 14490.html

- Oklahoma requires vaginal ultrasounds before all abortions, with no exceptions for incest or rape, and the doctor must describe the foetus in detail or force the woman to see its image: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/28/us/28 ... .html?_r=1

- Alabama requires vaginal ultrasounds before abortions: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/28/healt ... sound.html

- North Carolina requires vaginal ultrasounds before abortions, doctor must describe the foetus, and women who refuse to see or hear it will be kept on record as having refused for seven years: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/2 ... 10336.html

- Utah governer signs a bill to force women to wait 72 hours before receiving an abortion: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/2 ... 69283.html

- Arizona legislator suggests that women who want an abortion should be forced to view one happening first: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/2 ... 68386.html

- Alaskan Republican suggests that an expectant mother should need sign permission from the man who impregnated her in order to have an abortion: :http://www.huffingtonpost.com/akmuckraker/alaska-mandatory-ultrasound_b_1368906.html

- Idaho lawmaker implies women use rape as an excuse for abortion: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/2 ... 66994.html

- Arizona passes a measure whereby a woman's place of employment will not pay for birth control unless she proves she is not using it to avoid getting pregnant: http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/0 ... rol-birth/

- Georgia Republican compares women to farm animals and attempts to pass measures that would force a woman to carry a baby that has died until she goes into labour naturally: http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/03 ... ?mobile=nc

- Tenessee considers a bill that will expose the identities of women who seek abortions: http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/03 ... abortions/

:headwall:

It's not a surprise to me that the states that implement these laws to control women, are mostly southern states (well except Arizona. It's next to my state, but Arizona is starting to turn into a backwards state with dopes). For anyone that is from those states, I apologize but the people in charge in those states are very backwards and narrow minded.

As for the miscarriage laws, that is just plain cruel. :headwall: :headwall:

Be aware, the states that come with these laws are also states that aren't a big fan of teaching sex ed in schools. The southern states rely heavily on religion to create these outrageous laws.

Also, Republican Prez candidate Mitt Romney's running mate, I forgot what his flippin' name is , wants to get rid of birth control pills.

Rick Santorum (Republican candidate that dropped out) wanted to ban contraceptives, even AMONG MARRIED COUPLES. .

I sure as h*ll hope that the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) will launch a court challenge to this medically and scientifically faulty, preposterous legislation. :fire:
The way things are going in that (and some other) states, I'm sure they're going to soon start burning books in the streets and putting "wayward" women in stocks for public humiliation...

That is absolutely ridiculous....in fact I'm pretty speechless reading that. How on earth they can pass a law that isn't even medically true is just beyond the joke. Too angry to comment properly just now.

^ To my shame I have to admit one political party over here copied the exact same statement.( http://www.nu.nl/nieuws/2894886/sgp-noe ... klein.html)
Ofcourse the chance of getting pregnant after being raped is small.WHEN you considder not all rape victims are female, not all are in their fertile years ( too young and too old)Some are barren and a huge % in their fertile years will be on anti conception and it can happen on a moment in the menstrual cycle that it's not likely to get pregnant. But that doesn't change the fact women do get pregnant after rape. They are totally entitled to think that abortion isn't ok and defend their point of view, but don't go twisting the facts and make the women that already had the terrible expierence of rape , followed by a pregnancy feel like thir own body has failed them as well, because they did get pregnant after rape.

Not so much women's health rights, but still an important issue.

http://johnnyvoid.wordpress.com/2012/09 ... al-credit/

I am so saddened at this prospect. What will happen to those women who need refuge when leaving abusive relationships, for not only them but their children too? And what about the tens of thousands of homeless women too, what will happen to them if the hostels close? This is worrying, very worrying... :(

^ I had NO idea, and I'm so glad you posted this, as it's important for people to know what's going on. This development is tragic and if it's allowed to proceed, I think only more unfortunate women and children (and youth) will be tumbling at even a faster rate down that slippery slope. I can truly see an increase in murder and suicides occurring.

^^ Urgh, our government just has NO IDEA WHATSOEVER, do they? :headwall: :headwall: :headwall: Yes, things are tough and yes, cuts need to be made. But once again they are targeting people who are already in desperate situations. It makes me so furious

^You're right. They should try taking a pay cut. They're putting people out on the streets, and keeping the ones who are already there destitute indefinitely. Typical Tory government, take from the poor and give to the rich...

^ Lol lol lol that is totally right, and something leads me to think that our own country is going that way with health rights and whatnot, as there was a woman who bought abortion pills etc, and she was in her final days of pregnancy, and she aborted the baby presumably because she would be unable to care for it etc and it was out of wedlock... and she got 8 years in PRISON! Tell that to China, as they'll force you to abort at full term if you have a kid and get pregnant again or you get pregnant with multiples. Stupid pregnancy laws (all over the word) need to be dropped, and not just the miscarriage/abortion ones, as there's the issue of gender preference aswell, and if all such laws were abolished, we'd be happier, and the world would be a better place (as the kids that would be produced could go on to be the next Jacques Cousteau etc and do something worthwhile for our planet)

^ THIS.

I can't even comment to the rest of this thread because the things that are going on in this country right now literally make me sick. There are so many things wrong with what they're doing, both morally and in terms of societal repercussions, that my brain just shuts down from overexposure to stupidity. Thank god I live in California - if anybody tries to pass that garbage here our liberal courts will give them one hell of a fight.
