Hey all, I did have a look through the existing topics so apologies if there is already a similar thread and I missed it (exactly the kind of thing I am likely to do!).

I was just wondering if anybody can recommend any good French language bands or musicians? I used to speak French but it's been a while and I need to polish up my language skills pronto for a new project coming up at work! I find that I remember things better when I hear them set to music but unfortunately my knowledge of French language music stretches to Indochine (legends), Kyo (too slow) and Jeanne Cherhal (funny but not quite what I'm looking for...). So, do any of you have any suggestions?

Sadly my knowledge of French music is nowhere near as extensive as my knowledge of German music but here's a few songs:

Superbus
Butterfly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQPNj38WscM&ob=av2e
Lola http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ig3g7U8wDM
Apprends-moi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcYAeL3hTBs
Mes Défauts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEribPTUnds

Mika has also done a song in French called Elle Me Dit

I know some Cajun ones. One of them is called J'ai Passe Devant Ta Porte (I passed in front of your door), and one by Jacques Brel called Ne Me Quitte Pas (don't go away), and one by the Hackberry Ramblers called Fais Pas Ca (don't ask what it means, cause I cannot remember)

^ I really like the Natasha St Pier one! :D

Just remembered about someone I subscribed to on YouTube ages ago....a French guy who goes by the username of Remitocoko who does covers of lots of songs. Most of them are in Enlgish but he has done covers of a few French songs:

Tu Verras (Claude Nougaro) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9V-7SznboY
Petite Marie (Francis Cabrel) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiHTyXHjUsQ
Quelque Part (Sheryfa Luna) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atJUEFop3W0
And a cover of Corneille's Parce Qu'om Vient De Loin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBbDNvj-UjU

Question: Is this thread just for French music in France, or can it include French-Canadian music as well? I'm aware that the French spoken in France and the French spoken in Canada are pretty different from each other, but maybe that could be just as helpful. -shrug-
