Sorry if this topic has been posted already, but I just felt like asking you all what the best movie is that you've seen lately. I'm looking for some new genres of movies (been watching nothing but horror lately...) and so I figured some people might want to share.

For me, the best movie I've seen in a while is "Baby Mama" with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Although the humor is a bit low in some parts, I still laughed my butt off all through the movie.

And for a good horror/suspense movie, I'd recommend the Mist. That movie is really creepy but cool! :-)

Anyway, anyone else want to share their opinions? :P

Into The Wild.

It's really an amazingly good movie. Sure it's kind of slow, but that doesn't take away from it at all. Definitely worth seeing.

Shouldn't this be in the movies and music area?

Anyway, I saw I Am Legend yesterday. It was alright, was a bit too much like 28 Days Later (the most scary British horror movie ever made), but some parts were well done, like the part with the dog (if you've seen it, you'll know what I mean). Will Smith was very good in his role in this, showing off a new, waay more emotional side to his acting that really made me feel for his character, the overall atmosphere created was interesting, but there could have been more work done on the infected. I think there was one moment in the whole movie when I sat up in my seat and genuinely felt uncomfortable- and that was like a scene from Silent Hill, but then the rest of them time there was no attempt to make the infected seem scary.. they just lunged at people and screamed. It just seemed like there was something missing to me.

However, I think it shat all over itself at the end, dragging in all kinds of random stuff like god's will (something that seems unlikely to exist when around 500 billion people have been killed and the survivors have been eaten by the infected rabid monsters left stalking the streets) and, while the climax was pretty to look at, the actual ending was a huge dissapointment (and again reminded me too much of 28 Days Later).

All in all, it was ok, but it tried too hard to include a message and a happy ending at the same time.

Firstly, I love your icon!

Anyway... "Memoirs of a Geisha" was pretty good. Though it does ABSOLUTELY NO JUSTICE to the wonderful book, it's still a good movie. I suggest reading the book first or it's tough to get the movie.

The Happening. Oh my god, it was amazing. Probably the best thing M Night Shyamalan has come up with in his entire career, better than Signs or The Village or any of the other movies he's written.

I am in no way going to divulge the story, because that would ruin things, but it is such a mind-fuck and it's caused me to look at things in a different way. Be warned, though, it's really really gory (tee-hee, it was great :P) Plus, rather aptly, it was released on Friday the 13th (dun dun duuuun)

I think one of the best movies I've seen lately would be "Barfuss" from and with Til Schweiger an a very talented Johanna Wokalek. I usually don't like german productions, but this one was really good. I had to buy the dvd.

But at the same time I bought "The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford" I never finished it. It is just so boring.

Oh, I read good reviews for that one but I haven't seen it yet.... I haven't seen a lot of movies recently but the best was probably Drifting Clouds (Kauas pilvet karkaavat/Wolken ziehen vorüber). It is that rarest of animals, an Aki Kaurismäki drama with a happy ending. ;)

Anyone for Guy Ritchie?

Snatch and Lock, Stock & Two smoking barrels are 2 of my favorite movies.
Next that I love to see Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones in one movie, the story lines are magnificent.

I just watched OneHourPhoto a coupla days ago. It was okay, Robin Williams was good in it but meh. Coulda been better. And yes I realise I am extremely behind with films

Then I watched Hard Candy just there now, it was good. Ellen Page is a very good actress and the story is interesting.

Imo a very good film because of Robin Williams. It is just such an unusual role for him. The same goes with Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones Diary. Everybody expects a "Mister Nice Guy"

I agree! I can't think of any other films with Robin Williams where he isn't nice. So it was interesting to see him play that role in OneHourPhoto. If it wasn't for him, the film wouldn't have been that good for me.
