Anyone a fan of this Japanese culture phenomenon and main cultural export? Note: I am not an otaku, like dressing up and going to conventions and stuff...
Definitions of anime and manga from wikipedia ( because I am too lazy to write my own explanation. And mainly because they both are pretty wide concepts and difficult to define.

Manga: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manga
Anime: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime

Share favorites, opinions and other stuff here. My favorites are pretty much manga turned into anime, so...

MANGA:
Yami no Matsuei ( Descendants of Darkness)
Love Hina
Power!
GTO - great teacher Onizuka
Hellsing
Godchild
Yellow
Pathos

I have decided not to start reading Naruto because there are far too many books in the series. And once start reading a comic, I have to read the rest...I don`t know how much money I`ve spent on the different X-men comics over the years...*shame*

ANIME:
Hellsing ( the best anime ever) There are actually made two animes from this concept of vampire vs hunter. The first, which is a series of 13 episodes, is based on the concept, not following the original manga story, while the other anime, published through Hellsing OVA ( original video animation), movies, follows the manga, authentically, from volume to volume. I can`t decide what I like best, but for first time watchers, I`d recommend the 13 episode series, so you`ll get a chance to know the characters pretty well.
The OVA`s have a limited time to tell the manga story, so the story progresses rather fast, so its better to accomplish a fair knowledge of the characters first; so your only concern and focus is the story. And the story IS good...

Yami no Matsuei

Death Note

Fruits Basket

Full Metal Alchemist

I`m also a huge fan of Studio Ghiblis animes; Spirited away, Princess Mononoke Howl`s moving Castle etc...etc...

What about you?

My best friend is a huge fan of Studio Ghiblis, but I have not watched those movies yet.
Yes, I am a loser :P

I liked FMA, it was a good story.
I like Bleach, Blood, Trinity Blood {though I've missed most of it}. Inuyasha is a guilty pleasure
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex was very interesting. FLCL was just weird, but addicting, hehe

I saw on Adult Swim that they will be playing Death Note, it looks pretty freaky, hehe.
I loved Wolf's Rain, though I wasn't overly pleased with the ending. Cowboy Beebop is excellent. Samurai Champoo was cool. I loved that entire concept. Neon Genesis Evangelion was another really good one.

We haven't watched any anime movies in a long time. :?
But I loved Akira. It's like the gateway drug of anime
Robot Carnival was cool. I remember one story from it to this day and I watched it like 10 years ago. And Project Ako will always be one of my favorites

I've watched a lot of girlie anime recently.

Cardcaptor Sakura, Nana, Fruits Basket...

And Death Note. This anime is amazing!

ahah, I've watched Spirited Away. I just laughed so hard when she collided into the wall after going down the stairs.
And I've watched the second too, in Japanese of course.

Me and my siblings got ourselves overly interested about anime and manga about six years ago, and have been active fans since. Yep, we do go to conventions but not often because there's so many of us in our family and travelling is so expensive... Mostly we go to see our dearest friends who live very far away and the conventions are basically the only time when we're able to meet properly. But to the point again:

Favorite manga / anime series from the years:

DragonBall (best series ever! :rolling: )
Gravitation (so lovely! I've loved it for years!)
Yu-Gi-Oh :rolling:
One Piece
Pokemon (naturally 8) )
Death Note (the story is fabulous and I'm a fan of the illustrator ^_^ )
CLAMP's series
Studio Ghibli's movies
Kon Satoshi's works (OMG that man is a GOD  His movies and series are ingenius )
Neon Genesis Evangelion

And if anybody asks: Yes, I've been reading a lot of 'boys love' manga too. I've also bought lots of it
I don't like to watch anime dubbed - I prefer the original Japanese version everytime it's possible. We've learned lots of Japanese language from all that mountain of anime during the years so it's even okay to watch some anime without any subtitles if there's none available.

Soooo many other series as well but my head doesn't work fast enough :rolling: I'm not fond of Prince of Tennis because the series is basically about nothing else than over dramatized tennis playing, AND many of my friends love that series and they have been chatting about it on my face a couple times too much. But I love many many series, I just can't get the names into my head now :rolling:

I've been drawing with 'manga' style for years now and I post my art into DeviantArt, here's a link if someone wants to see:

I grew up watching a bunch of animes, but nowadays I really don't watch much because I don't have much spare time. But I read a lot of manga (mainly because I can read while on the bus/at school, etc.)

my favourite animes (i like shonen animes best. shojo is mostly... blah, in my opinion):

Yuyu Hakusho
Fullmetal Alchemist
Samurai Champloo
Trinity Blood (though i prefer the manga, because the art is beautiful  btw, my avatar is trinity blood's queen!Esther :rolling:)
Ergo Proxy

my favourite mangas: {mostly underground stuff. also includes some manwha (corean manga)}

Tarot Cafe
Petshop of Horrors
The Laughing Vampire (volumes I and II)
Cinderalla
Slayers
Bastard!
Paradise Kiss (just because of Ai Yazawa's pretty art  )

Freaking love Hellsing, me. Recently downloaded the 13 episode series again, read some of the comics, converted my friends and my boyfriend (who is more addicted than me, now) and I watched OVAs 1-5 on Youtube. I was really suprised with how much was changed in the story-line of the OVAs compared with the series...and with how much less various happenings were explained (ie. the freak chips and where they come from)... and... Nazis? Whaaaat? Where the hell did Incognito go? He was badass :?
Alucard is the absolute definition of sex, his english voice makes my legs turn to jelly...

I also love me some Pokemon, too. Watching the first series (and only first series because the others suck) every now and again transports me back into my childhood and makes me happy ^_^
